Delta Partners With Land's End, Missoni, Bombas For New Uniforms

Delta Air Lines is retiring its distinctive “Passport Plum” uniforms from New York fashion designer Zac Posen in favor of its signature brand colors of red, white and navy.

“The airline has unveiled its first new uniform collection in nearly a decade,” according to Behind the Wings. “Designed with Land’s End and shaped by feedback from over 65,000 employees, the new look reflects Delta’s evolution into a modern, premium global carrier while celebrating the people and legacy that define its brand.”

Delta is partnering with Land’s End, Missoni (for accessories including scarves) and Bombas with the goal of  blending comfort, craftsmanship and style.

“Delta Air Lines unveiled the prototypes for its new uniform collection on Nov. 3 in a fashion show at its Atlanta headquarters,” according to USA Today. “Now the garments move into wear testing and refining before ultimately being rolled out to employees sometime in 2027.”

The airline celebrates its fashionable choices over the decades with a website dedicated to the different looks, including those from Academy Award winner Edith Head, chief designer for Paramount movie studio. The historic looks are featured before each flight in the current safety video.

The current clothing collection met some employee resistance, with the flight attendants union protesting it for uncomfortableness and irritations.

“They reported skin rashes, hair loss, respiratory ailments (coughing, breathing difficulty, vocal cord issues), fatigue, memory and vision problems, and low white blood cell counts,” according to View From The Wing. “And in a lawsuit, plaintiffs argued there were formaldehyde, chromium, antimony, and mercury in the garments. However, last month the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit affirmed a summary judgment in favor of the defense – finding that there wasn’t reliable causation (that the uniforms caused the injuries) and insufficient evidence the garments were unreasonably dangerous or defective.”

Currently, flight attendants and gate agents can wear either the gray or purple uniform.

“The company’s annual partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation will continue with crew members now wearing a fresh color, Powerful Pink, each October,” according to Newsweek. “For the first time, Delta will partner with Bombas. The sock maker will provide socks with special Delta branding for above and below-wing employees.”
