The new section will begin by offering recommendations about content available on emerging media ranging from iTunes to Google Video to AOL's In2TV, but plans call for the addition of more features and services.
The "On Demand" area has a link on the site's navigation bar next to traditional offerings such as television, movies, and DVDs.
Current suggestions include the film "Walk the Line" on VOD; "Welcome Back, Kotter" on AOL's new Internet streaming video service In2TV; and "Lost" on iTunes.
The addition of the "On Demand" section is part of a months-long redesign of the site, which is ongoing. Zap2it is owned by Tribune Media Services (TMS), and functions as sort of an online version of TV Guide with entertainment news and listings data. More than 400 other sites use Zap2it's information.
"Almost every day brings another announcement about new entertainment options for on-demand and mobile formats," said Jay Fehnel, vice president of entertainment products at TMS, in a statement. "Extending our listings data and recommendations to cover these new areas is a logical next step for our own Zap2it site, as well as for the many other interactive media companies that utilize TMS data."
