FEC Exempts Blogs From Regulations

  • March 29, 2006
The Federal Election Commission Monday issued a decision extending campaign finance regulation to paid advertisements placed on Web sites, but excluded "any other form of Internet communication," putting to rest political bloggers' fears that the commission would begin regulating their sites as campaign contributions. "The final rules are intended to ensure that political committees properly finance and disclose their Internet communications, without impeding individual citizens from using the Internet to speak freely regarding candidates and elections," the FEC's rulemaking stated.
