Viacom Monday announced the purchase of Xfire, a gamer-oriented social networking service that allows users to track and message their friends, see what games they're playing, and set up and join online games. The service supports over 550 games, including popular titles like "Battlefield 2," "Unreal Tournament," "Guild Wars," and "World of Warcraft." Xfire will be part of Viacom's MTV Networks division.
