NetRatings has sued adware companies WhenU and 180solutions for patent infringement, the company announced Thursday as part of its quarterly stock report. NetRatings, which markets research about
online traffic and usage under the Nielsen//NetRatings brand, stated that the suits are part of its patent enforcement program, designed "to protect the company's investments in its patented
technologies related to the collection, analysis and reporting of computer usage and activity." The company also has similar suits pending against several analytics companies.
