After a story that actress Reese Witherspoon could be pregnant with her third child last week,
Ad Age reports that the supermarket tabloid
Star now faces a lawsuit charging a violation
of her privacy, and that she was portrayed in a false light. Readers were promised "all the happy details" of the new arrival, with
Star noting such clues as to Witherspoon's delicate condition
as a trip to a baby boutique, her loose-fitting clothing, and the sight of her in a bathing suit looking four months pregnant.
Star says it has the right to ask if Witherspoon is pregnant, but
what the starlet is really steamed about is a claim that she was concealing it from producers of her upcoming films. "She has two movies coming up, and she just doesn't want to break the news to
producers just yet," says one source. Witherspoon is seeking unspecified damages against American Media as well as the writers of the piece, but the company's chief lawyer says the action is
"frivolous" and has "no legal merit."
