FCC Approves 3 XM Radios

  • August 28, 2006
In a much-needed round of good news, XM Satellite Radio announced Friday that it has received approval for three new radio models featuring FM transmitters--the Audiovox Xpress, Delphi Roady XT and XM Sportscaster. The announcement means that manufacturers can resume work on the radios, which XM hopes will buoy its subscription sales during the coming holiday season. XM has recently struggled with a host of obstacles, including ongoing regulatory issues for some of its other radio models, continued losses due to high costs for acquiring new subscribers, and a massive lawsuit from the Recording Industry Association of America, which alleges that XM radios allow consumer music piracy.
