The Tribune Co. now owns 100% of free tabloid
amNew York, buying out the remaining minority interest from co-founder and former Publisher Russel Pergament. Terms of the transaction were not
disclosed, but Tribune Publishing President Scott Smith said: "Readership for
amNew York is strong, and we expect the newspaper to be profitable in 2006 thanks to excellent advertiser support."
amNewYork competes with
Metro, a free daily offered by British-based Metro International. Pergament left his role as publisher, but will continue to consult for the paper. He is
succeeded by general manager and co-founder Christopher Barnes.
