Porcarelli Bolts MediaCom, Joins Active

Another top executive has left WPP Group's MediaCom unit signaling a pronounced transformation of the media shop. Jim Porcarelli chief marketing officer and director of client services, and head of the agency's Diageo business, has left to join barter media company Active International as executive president of corporate development.

Porcarelli's departure follows Jon Mandel's move from chairman for MediaCom's U.S. operations and its chief global buying officer to a new, as-yet-unannounced role in parent WPP's GroupM unit.

Earlier this year, MediaCom initiated a spate of lay-offs of mostly middle management and rank-and-file employees. Over the past year several other senior executives have also moved on, including former broadcast buying chief Peter Olsen who joined A&E and former research chief Tony Jarvis who is now global research officer at Clear Channel Outdoor.

At Active, Porcarelli will be a member of a newly-formed Corporate Development Department, which is responsible for implementing some of the larger strategic initiatives across all facets of Active's business.
