Apple Previews iTV, Feature Will Stream iTunes Conent To TV Sets

Apple Tuesday previewed a new product designed to bring iTunes video content to a user's television, and unveiled a new feature in its iTunes store allowing users to purchase and download full-length movies. The TV product, code-named "iTV," is a small box that connects to the user's TV, and can stream media files from the user's iTunes account directly to the TV, either through a wireless or terrestrial network. It's slated for release in the first quarter of next year. The movie serivce available at Tuesday's launch include films provided by Pixar, Miramax, Touchstone and Disney--all studios owned by Walt Disney Co., where Jobs sits on the board and is the largest shareholder. Downloads will cost $12.99 for pre-orders and new releases in their first week of circulation, $15 for recent releases, and $10 for older titles. The video files are encoded in "near-DVD quality," the company claimed. -- Shankar Gupta
