Ugg Boots, Wii, Digital Toys Lead Holiday Shopping Searches

  • December 13, 2006
This year's holiday shopping season is the first time that Web searches for digital toys have outpaced some traditional favorites such as Barbie and American Girl, according to new data from Hitwise. Breaking into the top ten most-searched toys this year were the Fisher Price digital camera and Digi Makeover. However, Baby Alive, introduced in 1973, managed to fend off the high-tech interlopers to hold the top spot for the week ending Dec. 9. Among electronics products, Nintendo's Wii game console was the most searched-for item, and three times more popular by that measure than the PlayStation 3. Ugg boots had the biggest share of searches among apparel and accessories, up 121% from the year-earlier period. The fastest-growing toy search terms since Thanksgiving are "Digi Makeover," "Crayola Cutter," and "Fisher Price digital camera."
