Congress Weighs In On Broadcast Indecency

Lawmakers Wednesday called on broadcasters to crack down on profanity and indecency following a series of high profile complaints. The members of a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee chided members of the media for not showing up at the meeting and also implied that the Federal Communications Commission was not doing its job of enforcing its indecency rules. The FCC Tuesday proposed a fine of $755,000 for radio broadcaster Clear Channel Communications, which aired a radio program intimating cartoon characters engaged in sexual acts.
