Philadelphia Inquirer Slashes 17% Of Newsroom

So much for local salvation. The Philadelphia Inquirer owned by city businessman Brian P. Tierney, announced yesterday that it will lay off 17% of its newsroom staff. The Newspaper Guild, which had threatened a possible strike in December, just finished tense negotiations. So far, the Philadelphia Daily News, also owned by Tierney, is exempt from this round of cuts.
