Study: Mobile Gaming To Surpass $6B By 2010

The mobile gaming industry worldwide will more than triple to $6.1 billion in 2010 from $1.8 billion in 2005, according to a new forecast by electronics industry consultant iSuppli Corp. Growth will be driven by increased adoption of more sophisticated mobile handsets, mainly in China and India. While casual games will continue to dominate the mobile market, the spread of smart phones will make multiplayer games an increasingly attractive category for mobile operators. Despite mobile gaming's promise, potential barriers to its growth include lack of consumer awareness, difficulty in downloading games, and high data service charges, according to the iSuppli report.
