Helio Launches Mobile Music Service

  • February 7, 2007
Mobile service Helio on Tuesday announced the launch of Helio Music, including tracks from labels including Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and EMI Music. The music service lets users browse artist bios and images, preview songs and read consumer recommendations. A feature called "Gift & Beg" allows subscribers to share music by buying tracks for friends which are downloaded directly to their friends' devices wirelessly. Songs can be downloaded over-the-air for $1.99 each or directly to PCs for 99 cents. Helio Music is included in full Helio subscriptions, but data charges apply to a la carte users. In announcing its new music service, Helio also said it will pass the 100,000 subscriber mark by the second quarter of 2007, with average revenue per user of more than $100 a month. Formally launched last year, the company operates a virtual mobile service that is a joint venture between SK Telecom and Earthlink.
