AT&T's Cingular Wireless will use Qualcomm's MediaFlo technology to deliver broadcast television to mobile phones by the end of 2007, the companies announced Monday. Terms of the deal were not
disclosed. The types of programming, and pricing, to be offered by Cingular will not be determined until later in the year, according to an AT&T spokesman. Cingular is the second major carrier to
announce plans to adopt MediaFlo after Verizon Wireless said it would offer the service as V Cast Mobile TV by the end of March. Other carriers--including T-Mobile USA, Sprint-Nextel and Alltel
Corp.--have tested MediaFlo. MediaFlo has struck deals to stream full-length programming with Viacom's MTV Networks, NBC, CBS and News Corp.'s Fox umbrella. The MediaFlo system transmits data on a
frequency separate from those used by current cellular networks. In the U.S., it uses a frequency spectrum previously allocated for UHF signals.
