ESPN Goes VOD

  • December 4, 2003
ESPN has made high-definition video-on-demand available to all cable operators, the company announced Wednesday. While at first one college football and basketball game will be offered each week, the service will be expanded as more sporting events and programs are produced by ESPN in high-definition. In the months ahead, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Outback Bowl as well as games from the Big East, Big Ten and Big 12 college hoops tourneys may be made available in high-def VOD.

"The rising interest of HD among consumers combined with the powerful consumer proposition of video-on-demand makes HD VOD the next step in the evolution of advanced services," said ESPN vice president of interactive sales Matt Murphy in a press release.
