Gemstar-TV Guide Leads Earnings Parade

On a busy day for first-quarter earnings reports, Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. reported consolidated revenues of $156.7 million, an increase of 9% versus the prior year's quarter. Operating income for the quarter was $42.1 million, an approximate fivefold increase. At the end of the quarter, the company acquired Aptiv Digital, last month launched its Online Video Guide, and this week, debuted My TV Guide, a suite of personalized cross-platform guidance products and services.

Also in first-quarter earnings news:

Audible, Inc., which provides spoken audio entertainment, information, and educational programming on the Internet, reported consolidated first-quarter net revenues of $25.3 million--up 28% over the first quarter of 2006. During the quarter, 72,000 new members came on board.

eHealth Inc. the parent company of eHealthInsurance, showed 50% growth in both revenues and members on a year-to-year basis, with revenues rising to $19.5 million.

BigBand Networks, Inc., the provider of broadband multimedia infrastructure for video, voice and data, saw net revenues rise to $52.8 million--up 62% over the same quarter in 2006.
