FCC Auction Helps Build Wireless Future

FCC chief Kevin Martin is opening to public-private partnerships to help build out a new wireless network. The agency will auction off wireless airwaves this year that are being returned to TV broadcasters. All this comes in the wake of the upcoming 2009 switch to digital signals. The FCC hopes to push broadband competition. At stake is the valuable access to airwaves in the 700 megahertz band.
