NetRatings Search Share: Google, Ask.com Up In May

  • by June 21, 2007
Nielsen//NetRatings released its May U.S. Search Share Rankings, containing few, if any surprises, but some encouraging news for Ask.com.

Google's share of the search space continued to increase, from 55.2% in April to 56.3% in May. In terms of the number of searches, Google passed the 4 billion mark, up from 3.8 billion in April.

The next three search providers--Yahoo, MSN/Windows and AOL--all saw their shares decrease in May. But number five Ask.com, which began its algorithm ad campaign early in the month, saw its share increase to 2% from 1.8% in April.

The remainder of the May search top ten consisted of My Web, Comcast, EarthLink, BellSouth and Dogpile. Dogpile was down from 9th place in April, and BellSouth replaced My Way in the rankings.

While most search providers saw their total number of searches increase from April, even as shares might have decreased, there were notable exceptions, led by MSN/Windows Live Search, which fell to 605 million searches from 612 million.
