Hispanic TV households grew 4.4% to 12.1 million, with Asian homes moving by 3.9% to 4.5 million. Nielsen also notes that African-American TV homes inched up more slowly--1.5% to 13.7 million.
That's greater than the overall TV population, which will be up 1.3% for the new season versus the season before. For the new 2007-2008 TV season, Nielsen's new TV household number is 112.8 million.
The rise of Hispanic TV homes changed the DMA rank of some TV markets. Phoenix moved up a couple of spots to eighth place, and Charlotte climbed three places to 40.
Within the Asian household estimates, Houston moved up to ninth place. Las Vegas moved up one spot to 16, while New Orleans increased four places to 47.
For African-American households, Atlanta climbed from third to second. New Orleans rose two spots to 23rd place. Minneapolis-St. Paul climbed two ranks into the 50th spot, and Syracuse moving up one spot to 100th place.
