Ford Backs Proposed Fuel-Economy Standards

  • December 10, 2007
Ford is backing the energy bill, and its embedded fuel-economy standards, that would require automakers to adhere to a 35-mpg CAFE by 2020.

Said the company in a release on Friday: "The House energy bill is an important step towards increasing the national fuel economy standard. It accomplishes our shared goal of reducing the nation's dependence on foreign oil and emissions of greenhouse gases."

Ford characterized the bill as "a substantial improvement over the Senate energy bill passed in June, because it maintains the separation of cars and trucks, provides flexibility to manufacturers and encourages the production of flex fuel vehicles."
