'Gladiators' Replaces Golden Globes Glam

The annual awards show looking to honor the best in television and film will give way to "American Gladiators" Sunday.

With the Golden Globes reduced to a one-hour news conference due to the writers' strike, NBC has slotted a repeat of its "Gladiators" remake to follow at 10 p.m.

"Gladiators" debuted strongly last Sunday, and did well again as it moved to its regular time slot on Monday at 8 p.m.

NBC will look to increase sampling and use interest in a news conference to announce the Globes winners as a potential lead-in. Before the conference, NBC will air a two-hour "Dateline Special" in which Matt Lauer will interview various nominees, including Sally Field and William Shatner.

Separately, in another strike-induced move, NBC will avoid repeats on Thursday, Jan. 24 with two episodes of freshman comedy "Chuck," which was in the Monday at 8 p.m. slot.

The original episodes will sandwich the "Celebrity Apprentice" at 8 and 10 p.m.
