Discovery Adds New Portals For Mobile Phone Users

  • February 8, 2008
Building off the success of its direct-to-consumer mobile website launched a year ago, Discovery Communications has added new portals for Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Discovery Health and Planet Green content which consumers access through their mobile phones at www.discoverymobile.com.

"With our new portals, consumers can now visit their favorite channels on their mobile phone and have access to an even wider variety of content and mobile applications, such as TV listings, ring tones, SMS message alerts and more." said Doug Craig, senior vice president, Digital Media Syndication, Discovery Communications. "Complementing our television networks, the mobile website offers programming extensions that consumers can use while on-the-go, all designed to provide fans with another way to engage with Discovery's content and attract new audiences to its brands."

Built by Crisp Wireless, the improved site also features greater ease of navigation and a more user-friendly interface for consumers searching for content, brands and information. In the coming months, Discovery plans to integrate dynamic ads on discoverymobile.com using clickable banners designed to ensure the highest-quality user experience and greater appeal to advertisers.

Discovery's direct-to-consumer mobile website is part of the company's multi-faceted mobile strategy, which also includes a 24-hour dedicated mobile programming network, Discovery Mobile, available to Alltel Wireless, Sprint and MobiTV customers; on-demand mobile video clips through Verizon's V-Cast service and Helio; and streaming video channels from Discovery Channel, TLC and Animal Planet, also available to Alltel Wireless and MobiTV customers.
