iPhone Gives Mobile Web A Jumpstart

  • February 15, 2008
The iPhone appears to be doing for the mobile Web what the iPod did for online music-giving it a jumpstart.

AT&T Mobility president and CEO Ralph de la Vega reportedly told audience members at the GSMA Mobile World Congress Thursday that 95% of iPhone owners surf the mobile Web, although only 30% had done so before.

About half have also watched videos on the iPhone via YouTube. Separately, at the conference, Google's mobile chief Vic Gundotra said that the iPhone dominates mobile search-accounting for 50 times the queries of any other device.

He added that if other handsets were as user-friendly as the iPhone, mobile search would soon overtake traditional search.
