NBC Creates Unit To Handle Licensing For TV

NBC Universal TV group is taking back its licensing and merchandising responsibilities for its TV properties. A new unit, NBC Universal Television DVD, Music and Consumer Products Group, will assume responsibility for all global licensing and merchandising of NBC Universal television properties, as well as the NBC Universal television catalog.

NBC made the announcement in conjunction with the start of the Toy Fair licensing convention in New York.

Kim Niemi, senior vice president, will be the most senior executive at NBC Universal Television DVD, Music and Consumer Products Group. Niemi be in charge of all NBC Universal's television brands, including NBC, Universal Media Studios, USA Network, Sci Fi Channel, Bravo properties, CNBC and Telemundo.

Licensing and merchandising for NBC Universal television properties had been handled by the Universal Studios Consumer Products Group. That group will continue to handle film properties, including the "Curious George" and "The Land Before Time" franchises.

Joy Tashjian Marketing Group LLC has been named the exclusive consumer products agency of record for the NBC group. Tashjian will work on TV brands including "Heroes," "The Office," "30 Rock," "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Monk," "Psych," "Battlestar Galactica," "Top Chef," "Top Design" and "Mad Money."
