Facebook Gives Users Greater Privacy Controls

  • March 19, 2008
Facebook Tuesday said it would give users more control over who can view their photos, contact information and other data. The social networking site said it will allow people to group their contacts into friend lists, and share different information with different groups.

The move comes just several months after Facebook introduced two new ad programs that ignited complaints from privacy advocates. One program, Beacon, informed members about their friends' purchases, while the other, Social Ads, used members' pictures to advertise products. Facebook eventually retreated from Beacon by making it opt-in only.
