Dunkin' Donuts Ads Urge Trial Of Free Iced Coffees

dunkin donuts ice coffeeDunkin' Donuts has launched a new commercial leveraging the power of iced coffee to help with morning cleanup after an all-night blowout.

The ad, running nationally since last week, follows the "freezing at Pee Wee hockey" pattern set by last winter's creative, also by Hill, Holliday of Boston. In 30 seconds, it shows a group of bleary-eyed, college-age women cleaning up the mess left from an "all-night blowout," fueled by Dunkin' Donuts iced coffees. As they pull a sneaker from a fish tank, singing about how much fun last night was and how not fun this morning is, a displaced turtle scuttles across the floorboards.

A voiceover urges consumers to stop by Dunkin' Donuts on May 15 to get a free iced coffee. Other campaign support includes radio, online and in-store POP.

The coffee and baked goods chain is offering its Berry Berry Iced Coffee from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It combines the tastes of blueberry and raspberry. Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin' says it plans to give away nearly four million cups.

It isn't the only fast-food giant that will give product away on Thursday. McDonald's also is offering free Southern Style Chicken Biscuits in the morning and Southern Style Chicken Sandwiches later in the day.
