ABC Grabs Sundays This Season, But Ratings Drop

DesperateHouswives from ABCABC won the last Sunday of the season, but showed ratings that were 15% below their finales of a year ago.

Led by "Desperate Housewives" and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," the network won its 13th consecutive Sunday in a role--"Housewives" getting a Nielsen preliminary 6.1 rating/16 share and "Makeover" nabbing a 3.8/11.

CBS had a slightly better time of it, as "The 43rd annual "Academy of Country Music Awards" was up 7% to 2.9/8, which stemmed the downward trend of recent years' telecasts. One caveat: the awards show didn't have to compete with "Idol" this year. CBS came in second for the night 2.6/7.

Fox was behind CBS, as its comedies earned steady numbers. "The Simpsons" took a 2.9/9; "King of the Hill" brought in a 2.6/7; "American Dad" earned a 2.7/7, and "Family Guy" had a 3.0/8. Fox took a 2.4/7 for the evening.

NBC was about half of Fox--at 1.3/4 among 18-49 viewers--due to four repeats of "The Office" and one of "Law & Order: SVU."

CW's season finales didn't offer much. "Everybody Hates Chris" offered a 0.5/2; "Aliens in America" had a 0.5/1 and "The Game" took in a 0.8/2. All shows were up slightly versus the recent outings.

CW earned a 0.5/2 for the night. Univision was a bit higher with a 0.7/2.
