Twitter Buys Search Engine Summize

  • July 16, 2008
Twitter has acquired Summize, a search engine created specifically to index posts on the social networking service. Tech blog TechCrunch reported that Twitter will hire five of the six Summize employees, while founder and CEO Jay Verdy will move on to another project.

In a post on the company blog, Twitter Co-founder Biz Stone called the acquisition "an important step forward in the evolution of Twitter as a service and as a company." He also said Summize would be subsumed under the Twitter brand and that search would added to the company's core offerings in the very near future.

The Silicon Alley Insider blog reported that Summize was acquired for an estimated $15 million in cash and Twitter stock. Are Twitter search ads next?
