Nickelodeon To Launch MMO Game For 'Avatar'

  • July 29, 2008
Fans of the Nickelodeon show "Avatar: The Last Airbender" will be able to become part of the franchise come September, as the network will unveil a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game that lets players fight, train and develop their own "Avatar" characters.

The game, called "Avatar: Legends of the Arena," will be available in 10 languages across 81 markets, enabling players to compete with other "Avatar" fans across several 3D environments. Players can gain access to exclusive in-game content by watching special episodes of the show, which will air on Nicktoons Network in the fall.

"The launch of this multiplayer online game gives 'Avatar' fans the opportunity to immerse themselves in the story lines during and beyond its tenure on-air," said Jason Root, SVP of Nick.com. "This property has always had a deep online connection with its audience and the game offers a natural extension of the franchise to keep fans engaged with the property indefinitely." "Avatar: Legends of the Arena" represents Nick.com's first foray into the MMO space.--Tameka Kee
