Real Video Improved

RealNetworks Inc. has issued an improved version of its technology for sending video over the Internet, and launched a set of products aimed at corporate customers that are helping lead a turnaround in its core business. The company said RealVideo 9, the first update to its video compression format in nearly two years, would be 30% more efficient than the previous version, meaning a video file will take up that much less space on a computer hard drive or when sent over the Internet. The improvements will also mean that dial-up modem users, who make up the vast majority of Internet users, can receive full-motion video, while high-speed Internet subscribers can see DVD quality video.
