Daily News publisher Mortimer Zuckerman said in a letter to a public interest group that he would be willing to bid for the News' competitor, the New York Post, if federal regulators required that the
Post be sold. News Corp., Rupert Murdoch's global media conglomerate, has already received an exemption from federal rules on media cross-ownership allowing it to own both the Post as well as a New
York TV station, WNYW. News Corp. would require another exemption from the Federal Communications Commission in order to get approval of its pending purchase of Chris-Craft Industries, a TV station
group that owns WWOR, another New York area broadcaster. News Corp. has argued that the Post is a money-losing operation that would be in danger of closing down if the company were forced to sell
it.
