Target Plans 'Bullseye Bodegas' For New York

Target screenshotOn the heels of New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Target says it will introduce four pop-up stores in Manhattan, which will preview clothes from 22 designers. The "Bull's-eye bodegas" are scheduled to be open Sept. 12-15--offering New Yorkers chic and cheap design choices, many of them not yet available in Target stores.

The Minneapolis-based retailer says it will offer the "trendiest and most affordable products from its designer partners across home, fashion, accessories and beauty," with an average item price of $25.

"Consumers today are focused on finding bargains and we want to remind budget-conscious shoppers that they can find great deals, and the quality they crave, all under one roof at Target," the company says in its release. The stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., in Midtown, Union Square, SoHo, and the East Village. Among the featured designers are Anya Hindmarch (handbags), Sigerson Morrison (footwear), Jonathan Saunders and Keanan Duffty (clothing), as well as Sean Conway (garden design), Michael Graves (home products) and Marcia Kilgore (Soap & Glory.)

Pop-up stores, pioneered by such hip urban brands as Comme des Garcons, are becoming an increasingly popular way for mainstream retailers to reach past their usual customer base. Target has previously used them to showcase collections, as have such stores as Ikea and JCPenney.

Fashion Week, which showcases Spring 2009 collections, is set to run in New York Friday through Sept. 12.
