Facebook Completes Conversion Next Week

  • September 26, 2008
The end is near for the "old" Facebook. The social network will convert all users over to the new version of the site by next week, the company said.

The redesign sparked a backlash among users who formed protest groups on Facebook, including one with 1 million members. Despite the resistance, the company expects the vast majority of members to come around to the new site the way they did to new features like the News Feed.

Another question is how developers will fare in a simplified, less cluttered Facebook landscape. "Those changes have brought significant anxiety for developers whose livelihood depends on a feature-rich Facebook Platform," according to the Inside Facebook blog.

Separately, Facebook on Thursday launched an official voter registration application powered by Credo Mobile and in partnership with nonprofit Rock the Vote. About 3,300 people had been signed up as of Thursday evening (EST).--Mark Walsh
