French Giant Buys Venerable Canadian Ad Agency

  • September 18, 2000
Paris-based Havas Advertising has bought one of the last Canadian-owned ad agencies, the 76-year-old Vickers and Benson Cos. Ltd.

Vickers and Benson chairman John Hayter said the sale would help the company compete better against ad agencies that have merged with big international firms. Havas is the world's fourth-largest communications group with more than 20,000 employees in 75 countries.

Company executives would not disclose further details of the deal.
