The flagship Ion network, which is attempting to draw viewers partly as a hub for off-network dramas, will be available in HD by next March. Children's network Qubo and lifestyle channel Ion Life will be available in the format later in 2009.
The Ion network now carries a "Positively Entertaining" tagline and nightly broadcasts of dramas "NCIS," "ER" and "Boston Legal." Miniseries and original productions will also be aired in HD, as well as blockbusters such as "Batman Returns" and "Analyze This."
Qubo is a children's network that Ion says "champions literacy and positive values." (Some of its programming airs on NBC on Saturday mornings, with Spanish versions on Telemundo.) Ion Life focuses on wellness with content covering diet, nutrition and exercise.
