'Seattle Times' Lays Off Nearly 150

The Seattle Times Co. said it was reducing head count by an estimated 10%, anywhere from 130 to 150 jobs, with almost 45 cuts in the newsroom. The staff has a week to accept buyout offers, based on their years of service. The economy was blamed for the losses at a company that has a history of protecting employees.
