Wal-Mart isn't the only retailer with broad appeal for bargain hunters: Dollar Tree, the discount variety which sells everything for $1 or less, says its net earnings jumped 23.7% over the prior year,
while sales gained 11.6% to $1.1 billion. On a comparable-store basis, sales gained 6.2% for the quarter.
And the company estimates that its fourth-quarter sales will range between
$1.38 billion and $1.42 billion, with low- to mid-single-digit comparable-store sales increases.--Sarah Mahoney
