Cox Newspapers Shutters DC Bureau

Cox Newspapers is closing its 34-year-old Washington, D.C., bureau in April, due to a bad economy. The bureau tailored its national and global news for local consumption: 17 Cox newspapers around the country. The decision will affect five foreign bureaus and an estimated 24 staffers. In early November, Newhouse News Service shut its Washington, D.C. Cox, a privately held Atlanta-based company, owns newspapers in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas.
