Message Server Matches Over a Billion Ads

  • August 21, 2000
Dash.com's real-time ad messaging servers have processed over a billion ad matching decisions since the company's launch in November 1999, the company announced today. Each time a dashBar user visits any website, a split-second exchange takes place enabling the instantaneous delivery of an advertising message based on the user's current shopping or searching activity. This allows advertisers to reach potential customers at the critical moments when sign-ups, searches, and purchases are made.

Dash technology anticipates a consumer's interest in purchasing a particular product or service in four ways. When a consumer conducts a search on any search engine (Yahoo, Excite, etc.), Dash analyzes the search words, determines a match with a Dash advertiser, and sends the message to the consumer. When a consumer visits a URL that has been designated as a competing site by a Dash advertiser, that consumer automatically receives an advertising message from the Dash advertiser. When a consumer is on any given Web page, Dash continually scans for key words relevant to specific advertisers and delivers the most accurate message to the consumer. As a consumer is clicking through a competitor's sales process, Dash determines the level of immediacy of a given purchasing decision by the type of page being viewed (the check-out page representing the most imminent stage) and delivers the most strategic message from an advertiser in that moment.
