Hallmark Adds Games To Consumer Site

Hallmark Hallmark Channel is game for expansion. To extend its online appeal, the company is adding a new Web destination called "Fun & Games," which offers more than 1,000 online and downloadable games. Hallmark partnered with Big Fish Games and VideoJax, an Internet entertainment service to produce the effort.

Hallmark Channel will promote select genres of family-friendly games throughout the year to support featured programming on the network. For example, if there is a "Mystery Movie Month" on Hallmark Channel, the game lineup will be mystery-themed. Future games will be customized to fit the themes and plots of upcoming Hallmark Channel original movies, too. Current categories on the site include mysteries ("Lost City of Gold"), classics (Sudoku, Daily Cryptogram) and puzzles ("Wild West Quest 2").

Both sites--www.hallmarkchannel.com and www.hallmarkmoviechannel.com--carry the new addition.

"Research has shown that Hallmark Channel viewers stay tuned in longer than the average TV viewer. Now we hope to extend that experience online with fun and engaging games that keep audiences interacting with the Hallmark brand," said Chad Harris, vice president, special projects and new media, Hallmark Channel.

The site offers free online games, including popular hits like Café Mahjong, as well as downloadable games that can be bought, such as Alice Greenfingers 2.

Early responses are positive, reports Hallmark. Fun & Games, which kicked off Dec.1, 2008, has had approximately 65,000 hits to the main site so far--while the Pop Video Quiz feature launched Jan. 12 has had approximately 35,000 Pop Video Quiz games played in the past two weeks, resulting in 315,000 videos streamed.

Featured Pop Video Quizzes for February, which is love-themed, include "Greatest Love Scenes," "TV Romance II" and "Greatest Chick Flicks." The customized VideoJax games are video quizzes where users answer questions about entertaining promotional clips on the Web.

Hallmark Channel is a 24-hour basic cable network that provides entertainment programming to 86 million subscribers nationwide. Hallmark Movie Channel is available in over 9 million U.S. homes.
