3.know: A Conversation With Web3 Marketing Guru Tyler Moebius

If you feel you understand all you need to know about the utility and implications of Web3 for marketing, you can probably skip this conversation I had with Tyler Moebius. If you're like me, and you still need to break down some of Web3's seemingly opaque concepts into simple and practical applications, I recommend watching it, because it was why I wanted to speak to him in the first place.

Moebius, a serial digital platforms entrepreneur who began his career as part of the startup team at aQuantive, has always been ahead of the next-new-thing curve. So not surprisingly, he was early in on Web3, co-founding SmartMedia Technologies with Reeve Collins in 2018 to help brand marketers leverage the blockchain and transition to Web3 marketing based on seamless, indelible smart media technologies.

The company already boasts some remarkably seamless, simple (on the front-end, anyway) easy-to-use, and creative uses cases, including one I wrote about earlier this week for Visa.

The conversation above is just a snippet of a couple of interviews I conducted with Moebius who has a remarkable knack for explaining the complexity of Web3 technologies in simple, easy-to-grasp terms.

And while the engineering on the back-end might be somewhat complex, the most important thing Moebius explained to me is that if you're a brand, and agency or even a consumer, you probably don't need to think about or even understand the inner workings of the tech -- you just need to understand what it does.

For the sake of brevity, I edited some of his explanations down, and am publishing his own bylined piece explaining why Meta's Threads App is an important technological breakthrough for Web3 marketing, even if you don't understand it yet.

The most important part of my conversations with Moebius is learning that while any new, transformational technology can seem complex, the good news is there are smart engineers out there who can make it frictionless for businesses and consumers to use.

That was true of HTML, of Web3 and, as Moebius' team has been demonstrating, Web3, as well.

As they say, the best technology should be invisible.
