Americans Are Cautious About 2024 Spending Plans

Recent economic data indicate the United States managed to avoid slipping into recession in 2023 and inflation showed signs of receding from multi-decade highs. These trends have helped consumer sentiment, but people are still grappling with the effects of higher prices for food, entertainment and travel.

Almost two-thirds of the general population (62%) expect they will have the same or more disposable income in 2024, compared with 58% of people ages 55 and older, according to a survey by researcher CivicScience.
