Sports Fans Shift Viewing To Streaming Platforms, Where TV Still Reigns

The National Football League this week wrapped up its season with the Super Bowl, and now sports fans have more time to consider which college basketball teams will be in the March Madness bracket. The popularity of connected devices such as mobile phones and smart TVs has given fans more ways to watch the growing catalog of streamed sports programming.

About half (46%) of sports said they’re watching more sports on streaming than they did before 2020, adtech platform Infillion found in a survey of almost 1,000 self-identified fans. This group of what Infillion describes as “streaming-forward sports fans” tends to prefer to watch sports on a television. Eighty-two percent of the group said they often watch sports on TV, compared with 77% of sports fans in general.
