Nylas, which offers a single API integration for email, calendar and contacts, has come up with a focused email plug-in.

That new offering, Email by Nylas, allows developers to build intelligent email integrations on top of the Nylas platform, so they can connect with all the major email service providers, using OpenAI’s large language model.

Powered by GPT-4, Email by Nylas enables users to retrieve and summarize emails, craft replies and conduct efficient search and organization.

“We believe that through the combination of Nylas and generative AI, we can help foster higher levels of productivity, creativity, and deep learning for developers and their teams, says Isaac Nassimi, senior vice president of product at Nylas.

Nylas says this new plugin is the first that allows firms to structure and work with email data directly within the ChatGPT interface. MediaPost was not able to confirm that independently, but Nassimi also says “developers can layer large language model intelligence on top of the Nylas Email API in order to transform the way they complete business-critical tasks.”

For instance, Nylas says the plugin supports:

• Enhanced Search — Users can search inboxes and sent folders based on sender, subject, date range, recipient, subject line, time frames, and keywords.
• Summarization — Clients can obtain relevant insights and remove clutter from long threads or summarizing emails.
• Personalized Communication — Marketers can capture the user’s voice and tone based on previously sent emails. They can then intelligently compose email drafts in personalized styles, lengths, and professional manners.

What are some of the use cases? Among other things, users can:

• See the subject lines and senders of all unread emails from the past 24 hours.
• Find all starred emails from the last month, along with a brief summary.

This is not designed to eliminate jobs — rather, it helps streamline work for teams. We will see.  

The firm notes that Email by Nylas is not covered through Nylas support. However, it can be used even by non-Nylas customers.
