'The Winsted Citizen' Is Being Shuttered: Report

The Winsted Citizen, a small Connecticut newspaper founded last February with Ralph Nader’s help, is closing its doors

“We beat the Grim Reaper every month for most of the year,” wrote Andy Thibault, editor and publisher, in a memo to the staff, according to U.S. News. ”Our best month financially resulted in our lowest deficit.”

Thibault continued, “Now, our quest regrettably has become the impossible dream. It sure was great — despite numerous stumbles, obstacles and heartaches — while it lasted.”

Nader, who reportedly lives in Winsted, told Associated Press in February, that he regretted the closure of the old Winsted daily.

“After awhile it all congeals and you start losing history,” he said, according to U.S. News. “Every year you don’t have a newspaper, you lose that connection.”
