The How To Train Your Dragon franchise goes all in with a fully realized massive multiplayer online roleplaying game that feels nothing like the typical branded knock off challenge. The Way2ride mobile payment app lets New York City cab riders say good-bye to lost keys and wallets after digging through purses and pockets to pay the fare. With the VeriFone app, passengers simply get into a cab, tap to pay the bill, and get out when they reach their destination. Passenger receipts saved in the app include route maps and tags for submitting expenses. The mobile app has processed more than 250,000 mobile transactions, about $4.5 million in fares and gratuities, since debuting in October 2013.

This free app is every hypochondriacs’ dream. AskMD (not to be confused with rival WebMD) helps consumers collect information about their symptoms, learn more about common causes, and connect them to the doctors who can treat them. There are any number of music apps happy to lend a hand to recommendation-deprived listeners. But there’s only one, Songza, that has figured out how to deliver the right songs at the right moment. The Songza app, and in particular its Concierge curation service, emphasizes context. Mosaic allows iPhone, iPad and Android users to create personalized photo books from their phones or tablets. People just tap 20 photos, upload then, and then preview each image in a photo manager. The 20-page books, which cost a flat $20, can be shipped to anywhere in the country within four days. The 7 x 7 book comes with a linen cover that includes 13 windows that showcases the photos in a collage.

Members of the Orbitz Rewards loyalty program earn 5% on hotels and 2% on flights; bookings turn into earned Orbucks, redeemed on your trip. Support for Facebook and Google Wallet, coupled with the ability to book cars in destination cities, adds to the zippy options. By the end of 2013, over one-third of Orbitz’s hotel bookings came via mobile.
