Ad Operations Associate, Programmatic

About.com is looking for an energetic and seasoned Programmatic AdOps Associate to manage the campaign performance and delivery process and support the renewal and upsell of existing business. This is an opportunity to utilize your project management skills to strategize and redefine how media campaigns are managed by About.com. You will work across multiple sales support/marketing departments and external clients/advertisers to:

  • Operations: manage complex campaigns running on our online portfolio; grow and foster relationships with existing and potential clients by strategizing on the best delivery of campaigns
  • Strategy: apply and grow your industry, category and technical expertise
  • Leadership: coach and develop junior members of the ad operations team

The ideal candidate has extensive media and online advertising experience. You are an expert with placement and targeting. You like, no – you love data. Working within Excel comes naturally and you enjoy being in the details. Responsibilities

  • Exchanges/DSP/SSP/server expert: AdX, OpenX, Rubicon, IndeX, Pubmatic, DFP, isocket
  • Business partner to Programmatic team, Operations and other divisional leaders like Tech, Engineering
  • Manage online advertising campaigns using AdX, DFP Premium, OpenX, isocket and DSM
  • Right hand to the head of AdOps on lead exchange platform integrations, programmatic ad stack innovations, self service implementations and team development support
  • Create frequent changes in ad stack to capitalize on opportunities within different SSPs
  • Increase overall yield - markets change based on buyer relationships, platform technologies, seasonality
  • Change rates for existing line items, including/excluding subdomains, adding/removing existing partners
  • Standardize exchange/AdX line items in DFP
  • Lead on ad-hoc programmatic tests
  • Introduce additional layers of exchange tags that are trafficked to targeted areas to see if exchanges can be floored more aggressively to increase revenue and margins
  • Acute focus towards developing new programmatic targeting opportunities and programmatic technology innovations
  • Create internal monthly and quarterly AdOps reviews to highlight programmatic evolutions, learnings and best practices to broader Operations team
  • Autonomously grow your programmatic industry, vertical and account expertise
  • Manage the OMS/DSM programmatic product suite build out and frequently adjust based on Programmatic team’s guidance of market demands
  • Partner with internal leaders to set vision and strategy of how internal ad products can help grow our clients’ and partners’ businesses
  • Execute programmatic set up, testing, launch and changes to some of our complex configurations
  • Make recommendations and support optimization of programmatic campaigns on a frequent basis for performance and delivery
  • Team escalation contact for programmatic troubleshooting, ad serving issues and discrepancies
  • Liaison for cross-functional teams of Programmatic, Account Management and Revenue Analytics
  • QA site functionality as related to programmatic ads
  • Trouble-shoot programmatic ad serving errors, report discrepancies, broken creative using tools like chrome dev tool, geoedge, moat, httpsy, Charles, fiddler
  • Attend programmatic vendor meetings with a strategic and technical mindset
  • Meet regularly with SalesOps team to showcase programmatic results, progress, and drive best revenue results

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience with trafficking digital media and advertising
  • Expert understanding of HTML, Flash, and JavaScript, rich media vendors, mobile and pre-roll solutions, programmatic technologies and exchanges, OMS and CRM tools
  • Constantly drives for results, knows how to set objectives and break work down into steps, knows how to organize and measure people and activities and manages project interdependencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization verbally or in writing and the ability to influence others
  • Strong aptitude for determining the optimal way to position products internally and externally
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with and manage cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of competitive landscape of interactive advertising, audience segmentation/data and media networks
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Technical mindset to absorb ad-serving technologies
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a deadline driven, changing environment
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and passion for analyzing data, products, brands
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience supporting a direct sales organization highly regarded
  • Interested in technical and operational elements
  • Positive, up-beat, can-do attitude
  • Sense of humor preferred – we laugh a lot
