  • GAP Inc.
    In Review
    Gap Inc. has begun a search for a media buying agency. In the past, Gap has handled its marketing and media buying efforts in house. The review is being handled by Susan Kettler, Gap's senior director of media, and the RFP is for U.S. TV media buying for all three of Gap Inc.'s brands: Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic.

    Starlink
    Gateway has awarded media duties on its $150 million account to StarLink, a unit of Starcom MediaVest Group. Starcom will handle direct response, multicultural media, broadcast, and print planning and placement.
  • Capital One
    McCann-Erickson
    Capital One has awarded its estimated $170 million U.S. creative account to Interpublic Group's McCann-Erickson in New York. McCann-Erickson's London office will handle the U.K. portion of the business. The agency beat out Element 79 in Chicago, who pitched with AMV BBDO in London, and Faulds in London, which pitched for the U.K. account.

    Young & Rubicam
    Burger King Corp. is consolidating the majority of its $340 million advertising, interactive and promotional business with WPP Group's Young & Rubicam. Deutsch, Los Angeles, which had handled field marketing, DraftWorldwide, which had been responsible for promotional work, and MediaFirst, which was responsible for media buying and planning, have been scratched from the company's roster.

    Euro RSCG
    Euro RSCG Worldwide has been awarded Gemini Ernst & Young's $20 million international account. The account includes both creative and media, and McCann-Erickson Worldwide competed with Euro RSCG for the account.
  • Pennzoil Motor Oil
    TBWA/Chiat/Day
    TBWA/Chiat/Day, Playa del Rey, California, has been selected to handle Shell Lubricants' $20 million Pennzoil Motor Oil advertising account. GSD&M, Austin, Texas, Deutsch, Los Angeles, and Martin Agency, Richmond, Virginia, were also in the running for the account.

    DDB
    DDB Chicago has won creative duties on Alltel's $70 million account. DDB beat out The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., Campbell-Ewald in Warren, Michigan, Martin/Williams in Minneapolis and The Richards Group in Dallas for the account.
  • Western Wireless
    Publicis Mid America
    Publicis Mid America, Dallas has been awarded Western Wireless' estimated $15 million account. Publicis will create a national brand campaign for the company, and beat out Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas, and Hoffman/Lewis, San Francisco, for the account.
  • Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's Race for the Cure (NYC Affiliate)
    Stein Rogan + Partners
    The Greater New York City Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has selected Stein Rogan + Partners in New York to develop advertising and marketing communications promoting its "Race for the Cure," which will be held Sunday, September 14 in Central Park. The Agency's responsibilities include strategy development, print and broadcast advertising, online advertising, direct marketing and promotional activities.

    WIEDEN & KENNEDY
    Wieden & Kennedy of London has won Sony's Aiwa global advertising account, estimated at $50 million. Other agencies who were involved in the pitch were Team Omnicom, Strawberry Frog, and Fallon Worldwide, New York.
  • Fairmont Hotels & Resorts
    The Phelps Group
    The Phelps Group has expanded its work for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts by taking on advertising, direct and collateral duties for the Sonoma Mission Inn, a Fairmont property in Sonoma, California. The Phelps Group also will be working with the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University to implement and market a new business ethics initiative being launched by the school. The agency will provide advertising, direct and strategic planning. Combined billings for the two accounts are approximately $2 million.
  • American Bankers Association
    MDB Communications
    MDB Communications, Inc., has been selected as the agency of record for the American Bankers Association. The account had previously been held by Arnold Worldwide, McLean, Va. MDB will provide creative for print and interactive advertising as well as overall account strategy and research.
  • Barton Beers
    Hadrian's Wall
    Barton Beers has named Hadrian's Wall, Chicago, their agency of record for Peroni and Tsingtao, two of their imported beer brands. The agency will produce print and outdoor work for the brands, expected to debut later this year.
